In the market for a new scent?
If you’re wondering about the most influential and lauded perfumes in recent times, The Fragrance Foundation has revealed its 2023 award finalists and some of the highlights on the list might just help you find your new favourite.
At an announcement in New York the shortlist for each category was revealed as well as the winners in five categories.
The rest of the winners will be revealed at a ceremony in the Big Apple on June 15, including this year’s Lifetime Achievement Perfumer honoree, IFF master perfumer Anne Flipo, one of the noses behind Lancôme’s La Vie Est Belle and YSL Libre. The 2023 Hall of Fame award will be given to L’Oréal chief executive officer Nicolas Hieronimus.
Among the finalists were a number of fragrances that have gone viral on social media this year. ‘PerfumeTok’, where releases that gain leaps in popularity thanks to their appearance and sharing on social platform TikTok, appears to have had an impact on the nominations with the likes of Phlur’s Missing Person, a scent said to smell like ‘the lingering scent of your lover’s skin’, and Ariana Grande’s musky Mod Vanilla on the list.
Iconic scents shortlisted for the Hall of Fame award include Clinique Aromatics Elixir, Marc Jacobs Daisy, Britney Spears Fantasy, Viktor&Rolf Flowerbomb Eau de Parfum and Jo Malone London Lime Basil & Mandarin Cologne.
