Skin Institute’s new injectable treatment aims to give a smoother look to ageing skin

Skin Institute Profhilo
Skin Institute’s latest injectable treatment is gaining positive buzz worldwide for its impressive results in treating wrinkled or sagging skin.

The leaps and bounds made in injectable appearance treatments may seem impressive, but the work that goes on in the background to develop them is considerable. Generally by the time a treatment is adopted in New Zealand it has undergone years of trials and is being widely used in other countries. That’s before you consider that Skin Institute has its own team of experts to consider the adoption of any new treatments and the ongoing training provided to deliver the best possible results. It’s why the arrival, and subsequent popularity of Profhilo®at Skin Institute has been big news. An injectable treatment that uses Hyaluronic Acid, Profhilo® is intended to treat skin laxity and to help remodel ageing, sagging and crepey skin.

Initially launched at SkinInstitute in 2021 for face and neck treatments, Profhilo® is now available to treat the hands and décolletage too for a smoother, more youthful look. With skin texture and appearance an increasing focus globally, the unique abilities of this treatment have become a talking point.

SMOOTH AND FIRM SAGGING SKIN

Unlike the Hyaluronic Acid dermal fillers we’re now familiar with that provide localised volume to areas like lips and cheeks, Profhilo® has a runnier consistency that distributes evenly over a larger area beneath the surface of skin to give an overall smoother appearance to ageing and sagging tissue. What’s more, the treatment hydrates and firms skin and is shown to have a stimulatory effect on the cells producing collagen and elastin to help tighten, lift and improve skin quality and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

At Skin Institute you’ll receive a prior consultation to discuss whether the treatment is right for you and the results you’re hoping to achieve. Then, the application involves placing the product under the skin using a fine needle at points chosen to ensure safety and maximise the lifting action of the product. Profhilo® spreads throughout the surrounding tissues to hydrate and stimulate the collagen and elastin production.

For Profhilo® treatments on the face or neck, you’ll need two treatments, four to six weeks apart; for treatments on the hands or decolletage, you’ll need three treatments, again four to six weeks apart or when you begin to see the treatment’s effects diminish. You can top up with treatments around once a year, if you wish to continue.

Profhilo® can be undertaken on its own or in combination with other cosmetic treatments.

EXPERIENCE COUNTS

With over two million treatments performed globally in 56 countries, the treatment is considered to be well tolerated; however like any injectable treatment there are small associated risks and considerations that will be clearly discussed with you during your Skin Institute consultation. For example, you cannot have the treatment if you are unwell with a cold, pregnant or breastfeeding and it should be avoided for two weeks either side of a vaccination.

Allergic reactions and other issues such as vascular occlusion are rare, however there is still the potential for these to occur and should be considered, which is why this treatment should only be undertaken at an experienced and professional clinic where processes to manage risk and unexpected results are clearly outlined.
