Top Drops: May

McLeish Estate 2011 Hunter Valley Semillon and Bannockburn De La Terre make our May Top Drops cut.

Top Drops: May

Piper Heidsieck Rosé Sauvage

Nothing signifies a celebration quite like  the pop of a champagne cork, and the Piper Heidsieck Sauvage ($80) is the ideal “not so traditional” alternative.

McLeish Estate 2011 Hunter Valley Semillon

Great now or cellared  for later, this very fine  semillon features tropical notes and citrus on the nose. A great white for its price category ($40).

Church Road Grand Reserve Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

This Hawke’s Bay red is an award-winning drop thanks to its classical structure, and goes wonderfully with food. $48

140512-CR Grand Reserve Merlot Cabernet Sauvingon

Bannockburn De La Terre

A delicious, juicy pinot noir with an exotic, aromatic bouquet. While the colour is light, the flavour is plump and spicy with ripe dark cherry, blueberry and plum. $65
