The Duchess of Cambridge has given one new mother a huge surprise by dropping by an NHS maternity unit for a virtual visit.
Speaking to Rebecca Attwood via video call, the Duchess congratulated the new mother on the birth of her baby boy, Max.
“Hello, very nice to meet you,” said Kate via video call. “This is definitely a first, I think! Huge congratulations.”
“He’s so sweet,” remarked Kate after getting a glimpse of baby Max.
The Duchess also spoke to midwives and NHS staff about the challenges new and expectant mothers are facing due to COVID-19.
“As organisations, you’re playing such a vital role…the information you provide is a lifeline to a lot of people at this time,” said Kate.
The conversations were held ahead of the UK’s Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week which aims to create wider awareness of maternal mental health and signposts support for parents.
