Mulled wine is the traditional drink of winter and it’s incredibly easy to make on the stovetop. It is made by gently warming red wine until hot, but not boiling. A dry red or chianti is good to use. Add lemon peel, cloves, cinnamon stick and nutmeg. It’s easy to customise with your favourite warning spices. Mulled wine is perfect for winter and holiday entertaining!
Winter Mulled Wine Recipe
Ingredients:
Red wine (a dry red or chianti is good)
125g of caster sugar
3 cloves
1 cinnamon stick
1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
Method:
Place 125g of caster sugar and the peel of one lemon into a large saucepan. Add 3 cloves, 1 cinnamon stick and ½ teaspoon of grated nutmeg.
Add just enough red wine to cover the sugar and simmer until all the sugar has dissolved.
Bring the mixture to the boil for a few minutes, then reduce heat to low. Add the rest of the bottle of wine and heat gently until hot, but not boiling.
Strain before serving.
