The Queen Reveals Secret of her Healthy Weight

The Queen Reveals Secret of her Healthy Weight

Ever wondered how the Queen maintains her healthy physique while hosting banquets and afternoon teas most days?

The Queen Reveals Secret of her Healthy Weight

During a luncheon party at Buckingham Palace this week, the Queen engaged with one of the guests, organic vegetable box pioneer, Guy Singh-Watson.

While chatting to Singh-Watson, the Queen revealed she had made a change to her diet recently. ‘I can’t remember how, but we got into a conversation about diabetes and diet, and the Queen said she doesn’t eat many potatoes.’

Singh-Watson, who founded Riverford Organic Farmers, which delivers to households nationwide, explains: ‘We were talking about vegetables because, of course, that’s my stock in trade. She just amazes me; her broad interest and knowledge is extraordinary.’

It was previously thought that the Queen, 93, watched her weight by eating only small portions at mealtimes. However, a former cook at the Palace, Darren McGrady, has claimed the Queen has never been that worried about food. ‘The Queen’s not really bothered about food. The chefs and food and kitchens come last. They’re still using pots and pans from the 1800s, with the Queen Victoria stamp on them.’

Although potatoes aren’t the only food the Queen turns down. It was reported the Queen also avoids pasta, rare meat and crusts on her bread! Queen Elizabeth likes her tuna sandwiches with both sides buttered, a tuna and mayonnaise mix, thin slices of cucumber, and a dash of pepper.

So what does the Queen enjoy?

According to reports, the Queen love scrambled eggs, preferably brown eggs because she thinks they have a better flavour than white eggs. If she’s feeling a bit extravagant, she may ask for her eggs to be served with smoked salmon and a light grating of fresh truffle. But this added decadence is usually reserved for special occasions only. “She was too frugal to ever order fresh truffles,” said McGrady.  “She only really enjoyed them at Christmas when the truffles were sent as a gift.”
