An Empty Beach – Poem

An Empty Beach – Poem

there’s nothing so sad

as a pub with no beer

Slim says

but

an empty beach

is most beautiful

I think

seagulls stroll free

from shrieking hands

bluebottles do the backstroke

in an open sea

the sun purports no purpose, least of all

to boil folks, and

the sand relaxes

with no weight

upon it

while a person curls like a mollusc

on a concrete step cordoned off.
