London’s High Court has dismissed parts of Meghan’s case against the UK tabloid, with some of the evidence presented by Meghan’s legal team not to be included in the trial.
Meghan is suing the Mail on Sunday’s parent company Associated Newspapers for alleged invasion of privacy, breach of copyright and misuse of personal data, over the publication of a letter she wrote to her father in 2018.
The publisher denies the allegations.
Following a preliminary hearing, the High Court ruled that some allegations from Meghan should be dismissed ahead of trial, including claims that the publisher acted dishonestly and had caused a rift between the Duchess and Thomas Markle.
The court will also not be required to determine whether the Mail on Sunday pursued a deliberate agenda of publishing offensive or intrusive articles about Meghan, with a series of negative articles about her in the newspaper presented as evidence by the Duchess’ legal team not to be included in the trial.
The case will now focus solely on allegations that the tabloid invaded Meghan’s privacy, breached copyright and violated data protection laws.
