Adele had publicly shared her decision to quit drinking alcohol.

Her journey toward sobriety was something she discussed openly, and it has become an inspiration to many.

Adele’s choice to quit drinking alcohol was primarily driven by her desire to improve her physical and mental well-being. She has been candid about how alcohol was affecting her life, both in terms of her health and her creativity.

Adele, 35, said: “I stopped drinking maybe like three and a half months ago. It’s boring. I mean, I was literally borderline alcoholic for quite a lot of my 20s, but I miss it so much.”

She told a fan: “So enjoy your whiskey sour. I’m very, very jealous.”

There are several reasons why Adele’s decision to quit drinking alcohol is significant and why it could inspire others:

1. Role Model for Sobriety: Adele’s journey to sobriety has the potential to inspire millions of her fans who may be dealing with alcohol-related issues. Her openness about her struggles and decision to quit can serve as a powerful example of seeking help and making positive changes.

2. Improved Physical Health: Quitting alcohol is associated with numerous physical health benefits, such as weight loss, improved liver function, better sleep, and reduced risk of chronic diseases. Adele’s decision to prioritise her health can motivate others to do the same.

3. Mental Well-being: Alcohol can have a significant impact on mental health, contributing to conditions like anxiety and depression.

She said her drinking during lockdown “got earlier and earlier” in the day, and continued: “I’ve always had a very close relationship with alcohol. I was always very fascinated by alcohol. It’s what kept my dad from me. So I always wanted to know what was so great about it.”

Adele’s choice to quit alcohol is a testament to the positive effects it can have on mental well-being, and her openness about her experiences can help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health struggles.

4. Boosted Creativity: Adele has spoken about how sobriety has enhanced her creativity. For many artists, sobriety can lead to clearer thinking, improved focus, and a renewed sense of inspiration. Her music has always resonated with raw emotion, and her newfound sobriety may deepen the connection she has with her art.

5. Breaking Stereotypes: Adele’s decision to quit drinking challenges stereotypes about the entertainment industry’s culture, which has often glorified alcohol and substance use. Her choice serves as a reminder that sobriety is a valid and healthy lifestyle choice, regardless of one’s profession.

6. Family and Parenting: As a mother, Adele’s decision to quit drinking can have a positive impact on her family life. It sets an example for her child who is now 11 and reinforces the importance of making healthy choices.

It’s important to note that while Adele’s public journey to sobriety is significant, each individual’s relationship with alcohol is unique, and not everyone will have the same experience. What works for one person may not work for another. Adele’s decision is a personal one, and her courage in sharing it is commendable.
