The Kiwi comedians making us laugh during lockdown

COVID-19 lockdown has brought out some wonderful examples of creativity – from people sewing Ashley Bloomfield-themed tea towels to poets taking over billboards.

When it comes to NZ’s comedy scene, there’s some world-class humour coming out of lockdown. We’ve rounded up our favourite comedians making light of the lockdown blues.

Chris Parker

Actor and comedian Chris Parker has been capturing life under lockdown with hilarious – and relatable – comedy gold.

From the people you always see on isolation walks to cooking fails, Parker’s Instagram content has quickly become a viral hit.

Laura Daniel and Joseph Moore

As the nation’s obsession with Dr Ashley Bloomfield takes over, Two Hearts musical comedy duo, Laura Daniel and Joseph Moore have released a seriously catchy new track to express their “professional” love for the Director-General.

Tom Sainsbury

Known to many Kiwis as the ‘Snapchat Dude’, Tom Sainsbury has been sharing his own musical talents in regular – and suprisigngly emotional – solo concerts.

James Roque

Part of comedy trio Fricken’ Dangerous Bro, James Roque has been showing off the joys of Zoom backgrounds and has even joined in on the celebrity #BossBitchChallenge.

Check him out below.

Jack Buchanan

Found yourself stuck in lockdown with the family with nothing to do? Fear not! Actor, musician and writer Jack Buchanan has the jam for you!

Support the arts

With this year’s International Comedy Festival sadly cancelled, the NZ Comedy Trust has set up a Givealittle artist relief fund.

If you’re enjoying some of the stellar comedy content, consider donating and helping out some of the 200+ artists who have had to cancel their shows. Visit the Givealittle page here.
