Desperate for some more Irish drama after watching 'Normal People'? Well get ready, Sally Rooney's 'Conversations With Friends' is being adapted into a TV show.

After the success of the TV adaptation of Rooney’s Normal People, it was announced her debut novel, Conversations With Friends will be made into a new TV series in mid-2020.

Fans will be happy to hear Normal People’s director Lenny Abrahamson is taking on the new TV series, with British screenwriter Alice Birch and Rooney herself handling the script.

The official trailer for the Conversations With Friends TV show has now been released.

Photos released in February 2022 have gave us a first glimpse of the new series and its four leads. Newcomer Alison Oliver plays Frances, Sasha Lane as Bobbi, Jemima Kirke as Melissa and Joe Alwyn as Nick.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Abrahamson said Conversations with Friends shares some of the DNA of Normal People. “What we’ve ended up with is something that has a kind of aesthetic family resemblance to the other series, but is definitely its own thing.”

Conversations With Friends will follow suit with 12 episodes on BBC Three and will launch on Prime Video in New Zealand, Australia and Canada on May 16, 2022.

If you haven’t read Rooney’s debut novel, it follows 21-year-old Frances, an aspiring writer in Dublin. After performing at a spoken word night, she befriends journalist Melissa and her actor-husband Nick. Frances gets drawn into the couple’s glamorous world of elegant dinner parties and holidays in France. When Frances and Nick spark a connection, she is forced to confront a shifting dynamic and her own vulnerabilities.

In a statement on Tatler, Rooney shared her excitement for the project. “I’m confident we’re going to find fresh and interesting ways of dramatising the novel’s dynamics, and I’m excited to watch the process take shape‎.”
