What: Renowned artist Russ Flatt (Ngāti Kahungunu) presents five new photographs that explore contemporary politics and act as a call to arms.
Referring to the words Jacinda Ardern used to galvanise the nation during COVID-19 lockdowns, Team of Five Million asks us to consider whether we are indeed united or whether our political realities and social constructs work to divide us.
In Team of Five Million, Flatt asks: If an entire nation can stay at home for six weeks, can we not also constructively address house-lessness, children in need, and the insidious racism that impacts many of our most vulnerable citizens?
Team of Five Million is the artist’s seventh solo exhibition at Tim Melville Gallery. His photographs of staged scenes explore identity and our political realities, often through contemplation of memory and the past.
Where: Tim Melville Gallery, 4 Winchester St, Grey Lynn, Auckland
When: 1 – 19 June
