MiNDFOOD reviews: Blanc de Blanc Encore, an acrobatic cabaret with French panache
If you’re seeking something a little bit different on a night out, look no further.

Blanc de Blanc Encore is a funny, flirtatious cabaret show, now playing at the charmingly intimate, newly refurbished Grand Electric in Sydney’s Surry Hills. After premiering at the Sydney Opera House in 2019, Blanc de Blanc Encore went on to sell-out standing ovations Australia-wide before returning to the Harbour City.

I had high expectations of a production that boasted several alumni from Cirque du Soleil, which sadly had to shut its doors during COVID-19 but is scheduled to return later in 2023. Luckily, they were met: this international cast hailing from Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Europe delivers a show that is an engaging blend of song, dance, comedy and acrobatic feats; with just the right amount of audience participation. (My friend, sitting in the second row, was required to catch grapes in his mouth, thrown from the stage. He was luckier than the young woman who was blindfolded in readiness for knives to be thrown at balloons festooned around her person).

Scott Maidment, Creative Director of Strut & Fret, the award-winning production house behind Blanc de Blanc Encore said: “We know audiences are ready and willing for some world-class escapist entertainment in our brand-new Sydney theatre venue. It’s a first-class theatre experience.”

Audience members are encouraged to embrace the mood, perhaps add a little French flair and dress with a touch of sparkle. So grab a glass of champers, pop on some glitz & glitter, and come on down to enjoy a touch of European-style entertainment.
