Matthew Perry Dead at 54: A Tragic Loss for “Friends” and Fans
Matthew Perry, celebrated for his role as Chandler Bing on the iconic show "Friends," has tragically passed away at the age of 54 in a suspected accidental drowning incident in his home jacuzzi.

The news of the actor’s untimely death has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and among his legions of fans. The star only recently revealed his triumphant battle against alcohol and drug addictions that had nearly claimed his life.

Details surrounding Perry’s passing remain limited, but reports from TMZ suggest that he lost his life in a jacuzzi on the grounds of his residence. According to sources, he returned home after a game of pickleball, sending his assistant on an errand. When the assistant returned two hours later, Perry was discovered unresponsive, prompting a 911 call. First responders rushed to the scene in response to a potential heart attack.

Though the exact location of his passing within his residence is unclear, insiders have revealed that he was found in the jacuzzi.

Notably, there were no drugs found at the scene, and authorities have ruled out foul play.

Perry’s final Instagram post displayed him enjoying a relaxing soak in a jacuzzi, captioned with, “Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I’m Mattman.”

Struggled in the past

Despite his claims of conquering his substance problems, concerns were frequently raised about his well-being, often appearing overweight and disheveled in public.

In his memoir, “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing: A Candid, Darkly Funny Book,” he laid bare his struggles with addictions that had spiralled so dangerously out of control that, in 2018, at the age of 49, he suffered a gastrointestinal perforation due to his extensive opiate use. This resulted in him having a mere two percent chance of survival and being in a coma for two weeks. During his five-month hospitalisation, Perry had to rely on a colostomy bag while his colon recovered.

He candidly shared the horrific experiences he endured during that time, including waking up covered in his own waste repeatedly. He recalled, “I had s*** all over my face, all over my body, in the bed next door. When it breaks, it breaks. You have to get nurses.”

At the peak of his addiction, he was consuming an astonishing 55 Vicodin pills daily, and his weight had plummeted to a mere 128 pounds. Perry humorously pointed out in his book that keen-eyed viewers could trace the ebb and flow of his drug usage based on his appearance on “Friends.”

He mused, “You can track the trajectory of my addiction by measuring my weight from season to season. When I’m carrying weight, it’s alcohol; when I’m skinny, it’s pills; when I have a goatee, it’s a lot of pills.”
