Madonna has spoken out after a serious illness saw her admitted to intensive care for a "serious bacterial infection".

The star was taken to hospital on Saturday, 24 June and she was admitted to intensive care for several days before recovering. At the time she was reportedly rushed to hospital after being found unresponsive in her home.

Madonna, 64, now says she is ‘reflecting’ on one month since she was discharged after her ordeal, making a post on Instagram acknowledging how her children “showed up” to support her during her ordeal.

“Love from family and friends is the best Medicine,” the star declared, alongside images of herself with her 17-year-old son David and 26 year-old daughter Lourdes.

The Queen of Pop is also mother to Rocco, 22, Mercy, 17, and 10-year-old twins Stella and Estere.
The caption continued, “As a Mother you can really get caught up In the needs Of your children and the seemingly endless giving……….. But when the chips were down my children really showed up for me.

She insisted, “I saw a side to them I had never seen before. It made all the difference.”

Included in the post was a photo of the Like A Virgin singer holding a framed photo.

She went on to explain, ‘If you zoom into this Picture I am holding You will see A Polaroid taken by Andy Warhol of Keith Haring wearing a jacket with Michael Jackson’s face painted on it. A perfect triangle of Brilliance.’

Madonna says she “sobbed” when she received the photo from longtime manager Guy Oseary, as she “realized how lucky I am to be alive.”

She concluded the caption, ‘And Thank you to all my angels who protected me and let me Stay to finish doing my work!’

As a result of her health challenges, Madonna was forced to postpone her long-awaited worldwide ‘ The Celebration Tour’ that was due to start on July 15 in Vancouver and wrap up in Amsterdam in December. Madonna had reportedly been in rehearsals for months and was devastated to be unable to undertake the tour. There has been no statement on the possible resumption of the tour as yet.

On July 10, she posted on social media breaking her silence about her hospital ordeal, saying her “first thought” when she woke up in the hospital was her children.

‘Thank you for your positive energy, prayers and words of healing and encouragement. I have felt your love. I’m on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life,’ she shared.
