Lonely x Breast Cancer Foundation

Early detection is the best way to cure breast cancer, so to promote awareness Lonely have joined with the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.

Throughout October, all visitors to Lonely stores and all online purchasers will receive a breast care card, which outlines what you should be looking for and how to conduct a self-exam.  The card is illustrated by local artist Ophelia Mikkelson, who also designed the image for a limited edition t-shirt from which all proceeds are donated to the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.

Registered nurses from the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ will also make in-store appearances over the month of October to answer any questions and provide information.

To further increase breast cancer awareness, photographer Harry Were has shot a unique Lonely Girls Project. In association with Sweet Louise, the campaign features three women diagnosed with secondary, incurable breast cancer. Natural images of Marian, Maggie and Jo (as below) illuminate their strength and show the beauty of their scars. The project aims to make their struggle visible to a society that has a tendency to turn a blind eye to reality.

Head to lonelylabel.com to shop the special t-shirt, and text GIVE to 2447 donate $3 to Sweet Louise.

Throwing Shade: Karen Walker’s new eyewear range

Karen Walker’s new resort eyewear collection, SHADOW PLAY, launches today, and it’s all strong shapes and clean tones.

The range uses soft colour lenses and bold frames to purposefully create shadows on the face. “The idea is that there’s this beautiful interplay with light on the skin as the lenses bounce back a colour wash and the frames create this graphic, playful sense of structure to super-enhance your beauty look,” Karen says.

Showing that eyewear can go beyond style and actually function as a beauty shading tool, the models were shot on film in natural light to highlight the unique shapes created by the shadows. Warm browns, gentle whites and classic black accentuate the angles of the cheekbone and jawline, while metal/acetate frames create a definitive outline.

Karen Walker SHADOW PLAY is available from selected stores including Net-A-Porter, Liberty, David Jones and Karen Walker stores.
