Jeremy Allen White to play ‘The Boss’ Bruce Springsteen in new biopic

Actor Jeremy Allen White, 33, has been confirmed to play 'The Boss' in a new movie about US musician Bruce Springsteen.

The movie has a working title of ‘Deliver Me from Nowhere’, and is based on the book of the same title by Warren Zanes that follows the making of Springsteen’s 1982 album Nebraska.

Jeremy Allen White became a fan-favourite for his Emmy and Golden-Globe winning performance in culinary-drama ‘The Bear’. The actor doesn’t have a singing background and it is unknown whether his voice will be recorded as singing for the role or will use Bruce Springsteen’s original vocals.

According to a report in industry publication Deadline, 20th Century Studios (owned by by the Walt Disney Studios), has closed a deal to finance and release the upcoming project. Springsteen is actively involved in the film project, which Deadline reports will have music from albums ‘The River’,  ‘Nebraska’ and ‘Born in the USA’.

The book ‘Deliver Me from Nowhere’ was released in 2023 and explores the pivotal role ‘Nebraska’ has played in Bruce Springsteen’s career. His sixth studio album, ‘Nebraska’ is a raw collection of dark and melancholy songs about ‘down-on-their-luck blue-collar characters who face a challenge or a turning point in their lives’. It was was ranked number 150 in Rolling Stone’s 2020 edition of its ‘The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time” list.

White is expected to head to Springsteen’s home town of New Jersey in the northern hemisphere’s autumn of 2024 to film his part, which is expected to have a global theatrical release before heading to Disney’s streaming platform.

White is currently shooting Season 4 of ‘The Bear’ with filming wrapping up in June.
