Inside the Issue: MiNDFOOD November 2023
Welcome to the November issue of MiNDFOOD, where you can choose the adventure holiday of a lifetime, discover how to live a longer, healthier life and learn how to make the most delicious vegan feast.

Our cover star this month is NYC-based style icon, Iris Apfel. At 102, Iris is a living, breathing memento of some of the most fascinating, tumultuous and tempestuous eras in human history. Her CV spans seven decades and includes having her own exhibition at the Met Museum; becoming the star of her own documentary; being the oldest person to have a Barbie doll created in her image; and at 97, signing a modelling contract with global agency IMG. Her extraordinary life makes fascinating reading.

Iris is the embodiment of this issue’s theme: how to age well. We show you how to revitalise your mind, body and spirit, and be the very healthiest you can be. We look at the world’s ‘Blue Zones’, where the local population lives to some of the oldest average ages in the world. What is their secret? We spill the beans and detail how – wherever you live – you can create your own ‘blue zone’.

Love. We all need it but are we too focused on romantic love? Platonic love that you experience with your closest friends, as well as self-love, can be just as important to a healthy existence but we tend to downplay their importance. Our experts explain why love is so vital, now more than ever.

Are you someone who never looks backwards, who doesn’t believe in regrets? For a long time, many of us thought that was the way to go but new research suggests it may be more beneficial to embrace our regrets and learn lessons from them as we go on with our lives. Similarly, no-one likes experiencing sad times but have you ever thought about the fact that it is shared grief that binds us together as humans and that without negative emotions like sadness, we wouldn’t appreciate the best of times?

In our beauty section, with summer just around the corner, we show you how to get your legs looking beautiful and ready to bare; and introduce you to the new generation of skin tints – runny formula foundations that spread thinly over skin with a breathable, weightless feel and come with serum-like formulas packed full of skin-improving ingredients.

Our new food section, InSeason, shows you what to grow, harvest and enjoy each season, including the most tender strawberries and beans this spring. We give you the lowdown on risotto and how to make the most delicious fruit mince ready for Christmas.

Plan Your Next Adventure Holiday – The World Is Your Oyster

The time is right to take that big adventure holiday to parts unknown… or perhaps known! We highlight such diverse destinations as the Maldives, Peru. Sri Lanka, Switzerland and the Galápagos Islands.

If you’d like to stay closer to home, Australia’s breathtaking Northern Territory and New Zealand’s stunning Doubtful Sound are must-visit locations.

And if you’re looking to take a cruise, Alaska is the last frontier, and we showcase three ways to experience the largest, wildest US state.

The November issue of MiNDFOOD is on sale 2 October in New Zealand and 5 October in Australia. Available in stores and online at mindfood.com/shop
