Inside the issue: MiNDFOOD June 2022
This month, we shine a light on the innovation and beauty of Aotearoa, meeting smart thinkers from around the country and exploring the most stunning destinations from north to south.

“In this special New Zealand Edition, we celebrate all things across our nation, particularly the Kiwi innovators among us,” writes Editor-in-Chief Michael McHugh.

“This innovation and curiosity in working towards a solution is perhaps what we are best known for as a nation….I believe this innovation and attitude comes from the environment around us – this unique landscape that we have been born into and grow and thrive in.”

Who better to star on our New Zealand edition than beloved Kiwi star, Melanie Lynskey. As a teenager, she stunned audiences with her impressive début opposite Kate Winslet in Heavenly Creatures. Since then she has risen to become one of Hollywood’s most in-demand character actors and a role model for women wishing to be comfortable with who they are.

Elsewhere in Community, we champion our local eco warriors who are creating a better, more sustainable future and meet the young woman behind Mummys In Need, a charity helping every baby be raised equal.

In Health, we look at a new ‘bionic’ pacemaker that could revolutionise treatment of cardiac patients, explore the rare disorder of misophonia where people suffer from everyday sounds, and share Dr Rob Selzer’s story of realising his similarities to his late father.

This month’s Beauty edition dives into sustainable beauty brands, brings expert research on appearance medicine, rounds up the best types of blush for fresh-faced looks, and showcases burgeoning Kiwi beauty brands bringing fresh ideas to our beauty routines.

Find all your interior inspiration in Home where we put a spotlight on talented local makers, including Aho, a creative studio making products that celebrate an indigenous Aotearoa identity. We also step into a modern farmhouse where every life, architecture and decor are come together in harmonious balance.

We let our wanderlust take hold in our Travel section as we journey around Aotearoa, bringing you the best experiences, landscapes and hidden gems. Discover new heights of luxury in Auckland’s Pinnacle Tower, the hidden art, food and nature treasures in Taranaki, and a winter-lover’s wonderland in Queenstown. We also escape to Wellington for a weekend away, sampling award-winning food and discovering the city’s thriving arts scene. We head to the great outdoors for our Southland feature and hop on board the TranzAlpine for one of the most scenic train journeys in the world.

In Food, we celebrate the sweet potato in both sweet and savoury dishes, sample mouthwatering beef short ribs and bring you the best British baked treats-with-a-twist.

In Drink, our resident wine expert Cameron Douglas heads to the Wairarapa to sample the region’s top drops, rounds up his 12 best Hawke’s Bay chardonnays and shares his favourite wine producers from world-famous Marlborough.

Plus, we’ve got plenty of puzzles, crosswords and prizes to keep you entertained. MiNDFOOD June on sale 2 May in New Zealand and 5 May in Australia. Available in stores and online at mindfood.com/shop
