A fluffy new arrival has heralded the start of hatching season at Rainbow Springs’ Kiwi Encounter.
Rotorua’s latest kiwi is apparently a feisty little bird, attempting to escape out of the incubator when staff lift the lid.
It’ll be a three or four month wait to discover what sex the 346 gram chick will eventually be. This will be discovered after conducting a DNA test.
Meanwhile, you can name the chick by adding your suggestions to Rainbow Encounter’s Facebook website.
The nameless cutie will call Rainbow home until reaching 1kg, when he or she will be released back into the wild.
This season sees a milestone in New Zealand’s biggest hatchery as they’re expecting their 1500th kiwi chick.
