Your favorite “Friends” are coming back to New York City. Or, rather, their stuff is coming back, in a new pop-up shop planned for the city’s SoHo neighborhood. The news is sure to (central) perk up fans of the 90s sitcom.
The nostalgia-packed, month-long pop-up will be based in two places in SoHo from September 7 to October 6. The store will be open seven days a week, from 10am to 10pm, with tickets to visit the pop-up priced at US$29.50, available from August 2 online at Friends25popup.com.
According to CNN, the store is named “The One with the Pop-Up,” as a nod to the episode titles of creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman’s long-running series about six well-dressed best friends who hung out in the fictitious Central Perk coffee shop and sometimes went to work. The space will include set re-creations, props and costumes.
In a press release, Warner Bros said fans will be able to stick a turkey on the heads of the cast, peek through Rachel Green and Monica Gellar’s purple door, relax on Chandler Bing and Joey Tribbiani’s recliner and help Ross Gellar with the sofa pivot. There’s also a space to learn Monica’s tidying tips, a re-created Central Perk coffee shop and the legendary orange couch.
“As we celebrate the show’s milestone anniversary, we are excited to bring the ‘Friends’ experience to life for our fans in a way that pays homage to the remarkable cast of characters, iconic sets and instantly quotable moments,” said Peter van Roden, senior vice president of global themed entertainment for Warner Bros. Consumer Products, in a statement.
“It’s been nearly 25 years since ‘Friends’ premiered, but the fascination and universal appeal of the hit TV series lives on with fans of all ages,” van Roden went on to say.
