A student at Clermont Northeastern Middle School in Ohio has hit back at censorship enacted by the school’s principal.

Sophie was shocked to see her ‘Feminist’ t-shift blacked over in the printed version of her school photo, following the photographer raising the alarm with the principal – Kendra Young.

The principal then chose to censor Sophie’s chosen attire, labelling the reason behind her decision as being due to some people finding the word ‘feminist’ “offensive”.

This alarming proclamation sparked Sophie to take to social media to protest the decision and rally support to ensure freedom of expression in schools.

Following media pressure, the school principal reached out to Sophie and her mother apologising for the decision and asking what Sophie would like to amend the issue.

In an inspirational response, Sophie became out new favourite hero in the fight against inequality by responding;

“I want everyone to realise that we need feminism… I want you to have someone come into the school and educate everyone about feminism. I want us to go to the news station together and show the people that we are working together to make this school and our community a better place for everyone. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.”

What do you think about the response to Sophie’s ‘Feminist’ t-shirt? Should the principal have blacked out the t-shirt in the photo? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
