A new exhibition at Kensington Palace titled Royal Styles in the Making will see the ivory silk taffeta gown on display, along with the fabric the Queen Mother wore to Queen Elizabeth’s 1937 coronation.

According to the Historic Royal Palaces, the display will also feature surprises for fashion fans, including “never-before-seen items from the archives of some of the most celebrated royal couturiers of the 20th century, set alongside examples of the glittering gowns and stylish tailoring created for three generations of royal women.”

Designed in collaboration with royal jewellers Garrard, the special exhibition offers a peek into the illustrious world of the atelier, exploring the “symbolic power of a coronation gown to the romance of a royal wedding dress.”

Considered one of the most iconic gowns in the world, Diana’s wedding dress was made in secrecy by David and Elizabeth Emanuel. Sequins, hand embroidery and 10,000 pearls decorated the gown, along with antique lace that belonged to Queen Mary and a 7.6 metre train. The dress is on loan from Prince William and Prince Harry.

The Royal Styles in the Making exhibition will be held at Kensington Palace from 3 June 2021 to 22 January 2022.
