The winners have been announced in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 awards, with Copenhagen’s meat-free fine dining restaurant Geranium topping the list.
Sponsored by San Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, annual awards celebrate global gastronomic excellence across five continents. Led by chef Rasmus Kofoed, Geranium was announced as The World’s Best Restaurant 2022, applauded for it meticilous cooking and ambitious ideas, which recently saw the restaurant go meat-free.
“Rasmus Kofoed, Søren Ledet and their team have created an unforgettable dining experience, taking seasonal cooking to superlative heights and delivering precise, beautiful and elegant food that combines art and flavour alongside a ground-breaking drinks programme,” said William Drew, Director of Content for The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
Second place went to Central in Lima, one of eight restaurants in South America in the top 50 list, making South America the most-awarded continent. Among the winners were new entry Mayta in Lima at 32 and Rio de Janeiro’s Oteque at 47.
Some of the world’s best restaurants can also be found in Asia, with seven restaurants in the continent in the 2022 list, including Sorn in Bangkok (39) and La Cime in Osaka (41).
Also handed out at the award ceremony was the Gin Mare Art of Hospitality Award, given to New York’s Atomix, a 14-seat restaurant run by husband and wife team Junghyun ‘JP’ and Ellia Park focussed on modern Korean cuisine.
