Dancing disco-diva, Cher, turns dancing queen promising a new ABBA album.

In an interview on the Today show, the legendary singer-actress revealed plans to release a new album of ABBA covers.

The news comes on the back of her role in the all-ABBA movie musical, “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again”, which premiered earlier this week. Cher said that the album would be a companion of sorts to her role in the movie. “After I did ‘Fernando’ [in the film], I thought it would really be fun to do an album of ABBA songs,” Cher told the Today show. “So I did!”

While ABBA hits like “Take a Chance on Me” and “Dancing Queen” have previously been covered by other artists, Cher said that her renditions would break away a bit from the tried-and-true, 1970s Europop sound. “It’s not what you think of when you think ABBA, because I did it in a different way,” she explained.

No official word on when the new album will be released. Last month, however, Cher did hint on her Twitter page that fans could expect to hear the new music by September.

Cher is set to perform in Australia and New Zealand in September/October of this year.
