CHANEL brings monochrome rock to Dubai for Cruise collection
Chanel took its 2021/22 cruise collection to a new audience in Dubai, presenting monochrome looks with a rock 'n' roll edge.

The show replicated Chanel’s original cruise collection presentation which was held in the south of France in May.

The largely black-and-white looks were inspired by French author, playwright and artist Jean Cocteau, who was a friend of the fashion label’s founder Gabrielle Chanel, said Chanel’s creative chief Virginie Viard in show notes.

“Echoing the extreme modernity of Cocteau’s film, I wanted something quite rock,” Viard said, delivering a collection of fringed and beaded monochrome outfits showed at the Dubai Creek Harbour.

There were also capes over short frilly dresses, paired with net stockings. Frocks were beaded and embroidered on the sleeves, while Chanel’s traditional tweed jackets and skirts were fringed or embroidered with lucky charms. There were nods to punk and mod looks.

The collection got its first outing at a former quarry, the Carrieres de Lumieres, just below the picturesque perched village of Les Baux-de-Provence in May this year.
