Here’s what we know about the show so far.
Two series are in development
Not one, but two series are currently in the works – one of them being further along in the development process than the other. The second is still in preliminary idea stages, according to Deadline.
Reese Witherspoon is attached
The original film’s star, Reese Witherspoon, is attached to the project, with her production company Hello Sunshine behind the series in development at Amazon MGM Studios.
Gossip Girl team involved
Deadline reports that the offshoot which is further along in the development process is being written and executive produced by Gossip Girl developers/executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.
Premise under wraps
It’s not yet known what the premise of either of the shows will be. Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde concluded with Elle Woods marrying her fiance and hinting at White House ambitions – could the action pick up from there?
Legally Blonde 3 (still) in the works
Legally Blonde 3 has been in the works for several years. Witherspoon entered negotiations with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer to produce and star in a third instalment of the film series in 2018. It was then announced the film would be released on 8 May 2020 – that day came and went, and later that month it was revealed that a brand new script for the film would be written by Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor. It’s been reported that Amazon, which acquired MGM, still has plans for the film to go ahead.
