Princess Diana’s iconic wedding dress was arguably the most talked about costume in the latest season of The Crown.
The costume designers beautifully replicated the ruffled, ivory taffeta gown, with its signature 25-foot train, first teased in the trailer for the show.
“You don’t really need to see it, do you. Everybody knows that dress,” says the show’s award-winning costume director Amy Roberts.
The Princess dons a gorgeous purple dress with a matching scarf in The Crown, which appears to be modelled after a white Catherine Walker gown the royal wore at the Cannes Film Festival in 1987.
Roberts says Princess Diana’s style slowly evolves throughout the series, going from child-like cardigans and overalls to floral gowns and tailored jackets.

A ruffled floral dress which Princess Diana wore to the Royal Opera House in 1989 is reimagined in a one-sleeved gown in The Crown.
Meanwhile, Roberts says The Queen’s clothes have been given an extra stylish touch this season, with hints of “Prada-esque” designs, alongside faithful reimaginings of her ceremonial regalia.
