Scientific discoveries, stunning landscapes and a tender romance feature in the new Ammonite trailer.
Hollywood heavyweights Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan play star-crossed lovers in Ammonite, a new film by acclaimed filmmaker Francis Lee.
The historical drama follows real-life palaeontologist Mary Anning (played by Winslet) as a determined 19th-century scientist. The historical romance sees Winslet’s character strike up a relationship with Saoirse Ronan’s Charlotte Murchison.
Lee, whose 2017 film God’s Own Country found acclaim for its portrayal of gay romance, promises another tender love story with Ammonite, set against the rugged and wild backdrop of the English landscape.
“The image [of Anning] struck me very strongly,” Lee told Empire. “Totally working-class woman, born on the bones of her arse, yet somehow she managed to rise to be the leading palaeontologist of the century.”
Ammonite is set to be released in the US on 13 November, 2020 with further release dates to be announced.
