How Meghan and Harry Changed the Future of Weddings Forever

How Meghan and Harry Changed the Future of Weddings Forever
A new era of nuptials is upon us.

When Kate and Wills got married it was sure to alter the landscape of weddings all over the globe. And it did, with long lace sleeves making their comeback into bridal fashion, and trains so long that brides had to be surrounded by red tape to avoid a misdemeanor with some poor heavy-footed soul.

Harry’s wedding was supposed to fly under the radar. After all, five people have to die, resign or abdicate before he gets a look at the throne. But it went big. Not because it was crammed with more pomp and circumstance than ever before, but because it wasn’t.

Sure Harry looked as regal as he possibly could have, and formalities still played a big part in the day, but the way they married the old with the new (no pun intended) is something that will influence the future of weddings forever. After all, if the Royals can break tradition, why can’t we.

Simple Is the New Embellished

A picture of perfect elegance; Meghan’s Givenchy gown was a snapshot of style and grace. But free of lace and embroidery, the design was simple, with clean lines and thoughtful accessories. Her pared-back make-up was beautiful without following the bridal trend of matching the wedding cake. Perhaps Meghan’s freeze on froufrou will mean brides finally get the ‘less is more’ memo.

No bridesmaids? No worries. Despite Harry having William as his best man, Meghan decided to ride solo (apart from her posse of under-fives, of course). Saving her from the complications that come with selecting the nearest and dearest, Meghan kept it simple and stole the show as she graced the isle, sans extras.

It’s All About the Personal Touch

If you think Meghan and Harry let the professionals dominate every detail of their wedding, think again! There were plenty of personal touches by the bride and groom, making it very clear that they wanted to things their way. Far from the traditional boys choir, Meghan and Harry chose to liven things up a bit with a gospel choir (and let’s not forget Bishop Michael Curry!). Showing his romantic side, Harry even hand-picked some flowers for Meghan’s bouquet.

Acceptance Trumps Tradition

Gone are the days of Wallace Simpson and King Edward. The Royal family have more than proven that acceptance is the biggest rule in their family and that they will embrace love, even if sometimes it isn’t conventional. Stepping out and taking Meghan’s arm as she walked up the isle, Charles stepped up, proving that love always wins. Unconventional? Maybe. Inspirational? Definitely.
