Black ear plugs were issued at the door of Dunedin fashion label NOM*d’s opener at New Zealand Fashion Week today, and it was loud.
The collection, entitled Noise, stayed true to the label’s underground rock ‘n’ roll mood.
Throughout the standing-only show seven drummers wearing black balaclavas belted out steady drum beats, which built in intensity and got louder and louder as the show reached its crescendo.
Models ears were painted black or white in keeping with the Noise theme.
The silhouette was mostly long and languid – a mix impeccable tailoring and layering which echoed back to NOM*d’s Quiet Revolution collection shown at London Fashion Week (1999).
“I think it’s quite interesting that it still has those words about listening and hearing, and that was very long and languid like this too,” NOM*d designer Margi Robertson said.
Robertson said she felt the collection “had a very loud noise” and that it was great to be back at Fashion Week.
“It’s endorsing what we do. Something that has been there from the beginning which is cool,” she said.
We totally agree.
