Carla Zampatti opens Australian Fashion Week

Carla Zampatti sent out an army of glamazons at last night’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia opener.

From the moment the first outfit appeared – a figure hugging black crepe jumpsuit with a plunging neckline and trousers that flared below the knee –viewers were put in mind of sophisticated Bond girls. The no-nonsense kind who wouldn’t be seen dead wearing frills.

This was followed by a black crepe ‘Maximum Exposure Maxi’, then a black crepe ‘Diamond Sheath’ which hinted at Holly Golighty’s LBD in Breakfast at Tiffany’s but Zampatti promptly turned that notion on its head. Yes the collection was sophisticated with classic elements but it was also oh so sexy where skirts split high on one side and sometimes both, and armoured with gold metal belts and jewellery.

For a while it seemed the collection, which was entitled ‘Darker’, was to be all noir but then white dresses followed, then black and white, and finally an explosion of colour with draped dresses in lime green, electric blue and Moulin Rogue red paired with matching feathered jackets.

We’re picking Zampatti’s muses for this collection were Angelina Jolie and Daenerys Targaryen played by Emilia Clarke in Game of Thrones. If not, someone should call their stylists anyway because they’d rock these dresses on the red carpet
