Watch the Trailer: Belle Gibson’s Story Dramatised in ‘Apple Cider Vinegar’

A true-ish story, based on a lie.

Belle Gibson’s story has been dramatised in a Netflix limited series titled Apple Cider Vinegar.

Starring American actress Kaitlyn Dever as the Australian con artist, Apple Cider Vinegar explores what happens when your health and wellness advice comes from a fraudster.

The series is inspired by Gibson, who fooled the world into thinking she had terminal brain cancer and cured it through healthy eating and natural remedies.

“Set at the birth of Instagram, Apple Cider Vinegar follows two young women who set out to cure their life-threatening illnesses through health and wellness, influencing their global online communities along the way,” reads the Netflix synopsis.

“All of which would be incredibly inspiring if it were all true.”

The series is created by award-winning Australian writer Samantha Strauss (Nine Perfect Strangers, The End, Dance Academy), who was living in Melbourne during the peak of the real-life Gibson’s success.

Gibson claimed to have a malignant brain tumour. She shared her journey of battling cancer through social media and subsequently developed an app and companion cookbook on healthy eating, on the back of her claim that she had been able to cure her illness through diet and lifestyle changes. Gibson was in fact never diagnosed with cancer.
