As the release of Practical Magic 2 draws closer, we’re soaking up the moonlit mischief by studying the trailer for the new film.
The sequel to the nineties cult classic sees Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return to their beloved roles as the Owen sisters, Sally and Gillian. The trailer introduces the involvement of a new generation of sisters – Sally’s daughters – who become tangled in the tale of twisted magic and a lasting love curse.
“Remember when mom would tell us stories where everyone who fell in love… died?” Joey King, who plays Kylie Owens, asks her sister, played by Maisie Williams.
The trailer then shows Kylie’s beau hit by a car, forcing her to go on a journey to “fix the curse.”
Bullock and Nicole Kidman shared a glimpse of the forthcoming movie at CinemaCon in Las Vegas in April, announcing, “The witches are back!”
Kidman explained that the film’s original house, torn down after filming, was rebuilt, and she teased, “We also have our past catching up with us, and we have our destinies, and we have our family.”
“Sally is single, and if you know the original film, you can probably guess why,” Bullock quipped, referencing that love curse that was also at the center of the original Practical Magic.
The new film is based on Alice Hoffman’s 2021 novel The Book of Magic, a follow-up to her original 1995 bestseller the first film was created around.
Practical Magic 2 is in theatres September 10.
