The new movie is a take on the 1847 Emily Brontë tormented love classic which follows characters Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, who get caught up in a forbidden romance.
Starring fellow Aussies actors Robbie and Elordi, the movie is helmed by Fennell, whose film ‘Promising Young Woman’ won her an Oscar for best original screenplay in 2021. She also directed the 2023 thriller ‘Saltburn’ that became a streaming hit in 2023, known for its edgy scenes involving a graveyard and a bathtub.
With bodice-ripping, longing looks and sweaty skin in the trailer alone, the new take on ‘Wuthering Heights’ will likely involve similar overt eroticism. Many fans debated the interpretation of the classic tale when images emerged earlier this year of Margot filming scenes in a wedding dress for the film.
Fennell’s Wuthering Heights has already described by the New York Times as a “sexy, gothic and excessively modern” take on the literary classic, the new version even gaining an R-rating.
Music for the film is set to include original songs by Charli XCX and a score by Anthony Willis.
The film is due in cinemas on Valentine’s Day, February 14, in 2026.
