There was a time when a new romantic comedy would be coming out every week (think How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Sweet Home Alabama, Bridget Jones’ Diary), but since that era fans of the genre have been starved of a good, cheesy rom-com with its predictable storyline and likeable characters. Luckily, it seems there’s been a shift in Hollywood in the past few years, with many of our favourite rom-com stars returning to the screens.
Last year, Jennifer Lopez made a comeback with Marry Me, and Julia Roberts and George Clooney showed off their on-screen chemistry in Ticket To Paradise.
Now, Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher are the latest Hollywood stars to treat us to a ‘will-they-won’t-they’ storyline in Netflix’s Your Place or Mine.
The pair play lifelong friends, Witherspoon as single mum Debbie in a small town and Kutcher as bachelor Peter in New York. They decide to switch homes for a week, with Peter looking after Debbie’s teenage son, while she goes off to live her best life in New York.
Your Place or Mine is written and directed by rom-com veteran Aline Brosh McKenna (27 Dresses, The Devil Wears Prada) and also stars Jesse Williams, Tig Notaro and Zoe Chao. It debuts on Netflix on 10 February.
