As the previous teaser trailer revealed, the upcoming film, ‘Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale,’ follows the Crawley family and their staff as they enter the 1930s.
In the newly released full trailer for the upcoming third film installment in the hit franchise, we learn scandal has befallen Lady Mary Talbot (Michelle Dockery) as it is revealed she has gotten a divorce from Henry Talbot (Matthew Goode), leading to her being asked to leave a high society event and the news splashed in the papers.
‘When Mary finds herself at the center of a public scandal and the family faces financial trouble, the entire household grapples with the threat of social disgrace,’ reveals a caption with the trailer. ‘The Crawley’s must embrace change as the staff prepares for a new chapter with the next generation leading Downton Abbey into the future.’
The rest of the scenes in the trailer hint at times of change and challenge for the family as they look to an uncertain future.
The trailer also sees the long-awaited return of Paul Giamatti’s Emmy-nominated role of Harold Levinson, who returns to Downton to speak with his sister Cora Crawley (Elizabeth McGovern).
Downton Abbey followed the aristocratic Crawley family for six seasons on television between 2010 to 2015, then two previous films, 2019’s Downton Abbey and 2022’s Downton Abbey: A New Era, continued the franchise.
Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale is directed by Simon Curtis, from a screenplay by Academy Award winner (and Downton creator) Julian Fellowes.
The movie is due to hit cinemas on September 11, 2025.
