The joy of freshly-painted nails

Beauty Editor Milly Nolan trial’s OPI’s new Axxium Soak-Off Gel Lacquer service for a manicure that is worth every cent. MiNDFOOD reports.

If you are either clumsy or impatient like me, you will know how frustrating it is to have your nails freshly painted only to then smudge them as you dig for your keys in your handbag, put on your seatbelt or bang your toe against the pedals.

And let’s face it, no one has time to sit and wait in the salon while your nails dry, do they? For this reason I am currently obsessed with O.P.I’s new Axxium Soak-off Gel Lacquer service. Instead of regular nail lacquer, this system uses a coloured gel that is brushed onto your nails and then ‘cured’ (hardened) under a UV lamp.

Once two to three coats have been applied and cured, your nails are instantly dry, meaning you get on with your day without a single nail chipping, smudging or budging. What’s more, they will remain this way for up to two weeks, making it the best manicure or pedicure money can buy.

The only disadvantage is that it isn’t easy to take the gel lacquer off yourself – you need to go back into the salon to have it soaked off with acetone, but this just gives you an excuse to have your nails re-done. Perfect for a pre-holiday treat, O.P.I. Axxiums are available in all O.P.I.’s top colours, from the popular coral shades such as Cajun Shrimp to dark purples like Black Cherry Chutney.

With 62 current colours, O.P.I plans on releasing new shades with every new nail lacquer collection, and by June there will be the full range of 492 shades, making the colour choice an even more difficult one to make than it already is.

O.P.I. Axxium Soak-Off Gel Lacquer manicures and pedicures are available at Magic Tan & Beauty in Auckland.
