Shaking Beef

Shaking Beef is a simple dish with amazing robust flavours of tender beef fillet with garlic, radish and red onions.

Shaking Beef

 

Serves 4

Ingredients

800g beef fillet or sirloin steak

4 garlic cloves, crushed

¼ cup fish sauce

2 tbsp grated dark palm sugar  (or brown sugar)

2 tbsp vegetable oil (or peanut oil)

1/3 cup lemon juice

1 tsp ground white pepper

1 tsp ground black pepper

1 tsp salt

steamed rice, to serve

butter lettuce leaves, to serve

6 radishes, finely shredded, to serve

1 red onion, cut into thin wedges, to serve

 

Method

  1. Using a sharp knife, cut beef into thin diagonal slices. Combine garlic, fish sauce, sugar and 2 tsp oil in a glass bowl. Add beef to marinade and stir until well combined. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  2. To make lemon pepper sauce, combine lemon juice, white and black pepper and salt in a jug. Cover until ready to serve.
  3. Heat a wok over high heat. When hot add 1 tsp oil and swirl around wok. Add a sixth of the beef and stir-fry for 2 minutes or until browned and just cooked. Transfer to a bowl. Cook remaining portions of beef, adding oil as required.
  4. Serve beef with steamed rice, butter lettuce leaves, radish, red onion and lemon pepper sauce.
