Nutella recently ran a series of interactive polls on Instagram where fans voted for their ultimate winter-warming recipe using the choc hazelnut spread. Among eight mouth-watering contenders, the Pie-Maker Doughnuts emerged as the undisputed fan-favourite. And it’s easy to see why!
Pie-Maker Nutella Doughnuts
Ingredients:
2⁄3 cup caster sugar, and ½ cup extra, to dust
1 ½ cups plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
125g butter, melted, and 50g extra
2 eggs, lightly whisked
½ cup sour cream
1 tsp cinnamon
To serve:
15g (1 tbsp) Nutella
Equipment:
Pie-maker, widely available for purchase
Method:
Whisk the sugar, flour and baking powder together. Create a well in the centre and add the melted butter, eggs and sour cream. Gently fold to combine.
Turn on the store-bought pie maker. Spoon in enough batter to come 2⁄3 of the way up the side of each mould. Quickly add about a heaped teaspoon of Nutella in the middle of each, and then spoon in enough batter to cover the Nutella. Close the pie maker and cook your doughnuts until golden brown and cooked through (approximately 8–10 minutes).
Meanwhile, combine the cinnamon with the extra sugar in a medium-sized bowl. Melt the extra butter in a microwave-safe bowl on high for 1 minute.
Transfer the cooked doughnuts to a wire tray and repeat with the remaining batter and Nutella to make 10 doughnuts. For the delicious finale, dip the warm doughnuts in the melted butter then toss them in the cinnamon sugar.
