Ancient Grain Hot Cereal with Caramelised Apples. Start the day right with this warming and nutritious hot cereal bowl featuring delicious caramelised apples, cinnamon and honey.
Ready in 30 minutes, serves 2
2 tablespoons Ceres Organics Coconut Oil
5 green apples, cored and cut into ½ inch pieces
2 tablespoons Ceres Naturals Manuka Honey
1 tablespoon Planet Organic Ground Cinnamon
¾ cup Ceres Organics Hulled Millet
¼ cup Ceres Organics Amaranth
1½ cups water
1½ cups Pacific Foods Almond Non-Dairy Beverage
½ teaspoon Ceres Organics Sea Salt
Optional toppings: Chia Seeds, Whole Almonds, Sunflower Seeds, Raisins, plain kefir or yoghurt, fresh ground nutmeg, Coconut Sugar
Heat coconut oil in fry pan. Add apples, honey and cinnamon and sauté until caramelised, about 15 minutes. Set aside.
In a saucepan, heat millet and amaranth until they smell ‘toasty’, about 2 minutes. Add water, almond milk and salt, and bring to the boil. Reduce heat and cover to simmer, stirring occasionally, until grains are soft with a creamy consistency, about 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand as cereal will continue to thicken.
Scoop cereal into bowls and top with caramelized apples. Sprinkle with your choice of toppings.
