Crumble-A-Licious Pear Magic
There’s something irresistible about a cosy fruit crumble.

Crumble-A-Licious Pear Magic Recipe

Crumble-A-Licious Pear Magic is no fuss, all flavour, and totally dreamy. Fresh or canned pears meet warming spices and a crown of golden, coconutty topping that’s crunchy in all the right places. Serve Crumble-A-Licious Pear Magic warm with cream, custard or big scoops of vanilla ice-cream (or all three – I never saw anything!).

Makes 4 serves

Ingredients

  • 825g canned pear slices in syrup or 1kg fresh pears
  • ¼ cup caster sugar (if using fresh pears)
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tbsp cornflour
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 125g butter, melted
  • To serve: cream, custard or ice-cream

Method

  1. If you’re using fresh pears, peel, core and cut into thin wedges. Pop in a microwave-safe bowl with the caster sugar and ½ cup water. Cover with a dinner plate and microwave on HIGH for 5 minutes or until just tender.
  2. Now, grab a 20cm square baking dish. Add the freshly cooked pears and syrup (or canned pears with the syrup) to the baking dish. Sprinkle over the ginger, garam masala and cornflour, and give it a gentle stir to combine the warm, spiced flavours.
  3. Preheat your oven to 180°C or air fryer to 160°C.
  4. In a big bowl, add your flour, coconut, oats and brown sugar. Pour over the melted butter and mix with a wooden spoon until you have a crumbly delicious topping.
  5. Grab a handful of the crumble mix, squeeze it gently to form clumps, then arrange it over the top of the pears. This gives you those big, chunky, golden bits everyone loves.
  6. Pop the pear crumble in the oven for 25 minutes or air fryer for 18 minutes or until the top is golden and smelling like dessert heaven.
  7. Serve it warm with cream, custard or big scoops of vanilla ice-cream (or all three – I never saw anything!).
