Canned fruit as good as fresh

A new study shows that nutritional content of canned fruits are as good as fresh, and in some respects better.

The advantages of canned foods have long been recognised. They are a fast convenient and inexpensive alternative to sourcing fresh fruits and vegetables. But little has been known about the nutritional value of these foods – until now.

In a time where we are all being encouraged to eat more fruit and vegetables, a new study shows that nutritional content of canned peaches are as good as fresh, and in some respects better. This is because canning process makes many nutrients like vitamin C, E and folate and antioxidants more bio-available.
