Juliette Lewis reveals her secrets to a long career in Hollywood

Juliette Lewis has revealed to MiNDFOOD the reasons for her lengthy career as an actor in Hollywood.

The star, who first shot to fame in the early 90s, owes her longevity to hard work, treating her co-workers with kindness, and working to hone her craft.

“Longevity I think is really your own investment in your dreams, and your creative fire, and constantly trying to cultivate this curiosity about life and discovery in art,” she said.

“I just started taking a writing class and I was reminded to be a student again and again, it keeps you fertile with ideas. I’m really into classes nowadays.”

Lewis also said her father, the late actor Geoffrey Lewis, led by example, and she realised how much she had learnt from him when they worked together.

“I noticed we’re very similar on set. We treat everybody equal – the van driver, the lighting technician, the actors. And he’s also very light-hearted with humour, so even though I can do very intense roles, I like to keep things light in my own personal life.”

Her advice to other actors is to find joy in their craft but to work hard also.

“To anybody I would say, be willing to really work hard and be dedicated and committed to what drives you, and try to maintain an enthusiasm – a joyful approach.”

Lewis stars in anthology drama Sacred Lies: The Singing Bones, based on Brothers Grimm fairy tale The Singing Bone.
