Narciso Rodriguez: fragrance influences

This year American fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez celebrates the 10th anniversary of his iconic fragrance For Her. Here he tells MiNDFOOD his fragrance influences…

You grew up in a family of women who loved fashion and fragrance; was that an influence?

There was this long history and love affair that all of these young women had with these great fragrances, you know, Je Reviens, which was from Worth, a fashion and fragrance house that produced amazing perfumes I had never heard of. I also discovered Bal a Versailles, a great fragrance from the 60s, Vol de Nuit and Shalimar from Guerlain, Jean Patou’s Joy, Lanvin’s My Sin and Scandal, Caron’s Narcisse Noir and Weil’s Secret of Venus.

What was so special about these fragrances?

They were all iconic fragrances that were truly special. They came in small bottles; they were very precious. That idea of these precious fragrances in these beautiful bottles—seeing them and hearing about them—really had an impact on me.
