What: Acclaimed artist and New Zealand’s representative at the 59th Venice Biennale, Yuki Kihara is presenting her new exhibition Quarantine Islands at Milford Galleries Queenstown.
Opening on Friday 30 July from 5pm, Kihara will attend the exhibition preview and present a talk.
The artist’s major new body of lenticular photography explores the history of the small islands formerly designated as quarantine facilities in Otago, Canterbury, Wellington and Auckland.
“Remarkably and powerfully pertinent in our time of the Covid pandemic, Kihara as Salome stands at the edges of the quarantine islands, the past insistent, the present disarmingly beautiful, the future precariously interconnected and omnipresent,” says Milford Galleries.
Where: Milford Galleries Queenstown, 9A Earl Street, Queenstown
When: 31 July – 24 August
