NZTrio InterFusions

Acclaimed classical trio, NZTrio bring the second concert in their 2020 series on tour. InterFusions sees the talented trio playing a selection of stunning scores, including Beethoven, New Zealand-Japanese composer, Salina Fisher and Maurice Ravel.

Bic Runga

25 October – 14 November
North Island

Beloved Kiwi songstress, Bic Runga is taking her dulcet tones on a North Island tour this spring.

Kicking off in Tauranga, the acclaimed singer will be performing songs from her illustrious career, alongside te reo Māori interpretations and brand new tracks.

Digital Nights Wellington

Wellington

The world’s most visited multi-sensory experience celebrating artist Vincent Van Gogh has arrived in New Zealand.

Digital Nights Wellington – Van Gogh Alive sees thousands of the painter’s works projected onto stacked shipping containers in a temporary outdoor gallery on Wellington’s waterfront.

The Sleeping Beauty

29 October – 12 December
Nationwide

The Royal New Zealand Ballet presents an enchanting production of timeless ballet, The Sleeping Beauty this October.

Principal Conductor Hamish Mckeich leads a live orchestra playing Tchaikovsky’s spectacular score, alongside exquisite traditional costumes and the country’s best ballet performers.

Wellington’s beloved foodie festival is back for another year, dishing up the city’s best culinary experiences for 31 days.

With a packed programme, there’s plenty to delight – from a burger and boogie night, a gin masterclass to a fragrance and cocktail workshop, as well as plenty of breakfast, lunch and dinner deals throughout the city.

Days of Ice

8 – 18 October
Christchurch

One of only five Antarctic Gateway cities in the world, Christchurch is hosting a 10-day Antarctic showcase this October, featuring exhibitions, guest talks, film nights and family activities.

Go behind the scenes with explorers at the Frozen Wild Photography Exhibition, hear from fascinating Antarctic experts at the Kōrero on Ice panel and step onto the frozen continent with an immersive VR experience.

Artweek Auckland is back this October, taking over the city streets and galleries with exhibitions, workshops, street art, late nights and light shows.

Discover the beautiful art hidden away in corporate buildings, see a fire and clay exhibition at the historic Pah Homestead and explore the work of artists such as Monique Lacey, Darryn George and Henrietta Harris.

WORD Christchurch

28 October – 1 November
Christchurch

Aotearoa’s literary legends descend on Christchurch for the South Island’s largest literary event.

In a pivot from their planned international lineup, this year’s festival is a celebration of local talent, featuring over 60 events and 100 writers, thinkers and entertainers.

Events include a Q&A with 2020 Ockham award-winner Becky Manawatu, an evening of myths with master storyteller Witi Ihimaera, and an entertaining debate about the end of the world.

Art enthusiasts have a new podcast to enjoy thanks to Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki launching its Cultured Conversations series.

Hosted by gallery director Kirsten Paisley, Cultured Conversations explores issues and ideas related to the cultural sector, and considers the impacts of COVID-19 on arts in Aotearoa.

Paisley sits down with diverse voices from arts, philanthropy, economics and politics to outline their vision for recovery for cultural communities.

Among the guests are Heart of the City CEO Viv Beck, former prime minister Helen Clark and Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Chelsea Winstanley. The series is available to stream in video or audio form from aucklandartgallery.com
