Wellness on Water

Wellness on Water
Cruising doesn’t have to mean over-eating and under-exercising. A new breed
of ships is making sure that wellness is top priority on your next trip.

Often, people return from a cruise complaining about putting on weight, whether it’s from eating out all the time or a lack of exercise. So it’s heartening to see companies such as Uniworld bringing wellness to the water.

The river cruise operator is known for its boutique ships, each designed with every comfort imaginable.

All come with intimate fitness centres, but come 2017 a new series of “Go Active” excursions will tempt you to get active in the great outdoors. Some of the experiences on offer include a guided bike ride through the Danube River’s Wachau Valley in Austria; a hike from Braubach in Germany through the mountains to Marksburg Castle; rowing your own boat along the Grand Canal of the gardens at the Palace of Versailles; or a round of golf at Golf d’Etretat, perched on clifftops more than 45 metres above the sea.

If you’re looking for something more relaxed, Uniworld also offers guided walks that take in scenery at a gentle pace. Regardless of your itinerary or the ship you choose you can also look forward to a number of on-board wellness experiences. Start your day with a dip in the pool and morning yoga, or visit the spa for a rejuvenating facial or massage.

Thought has also been put into the culinary offerings, so you can choose meals from the “Travelling Lite” options, or select from a number of tasty vegetarian dishes.

Culinary Delites

There are plenty of opportunities to indulge in local culinary treats, but if you want a lighter alternative, dishes on the Travelling Lite menu might include seafood chowder or seared sea bass.

Cruises are all-inclusive, including excursions, with prices starting from $3,499 per person. For more information, visit uniworld.com/au
or call 1300 780 231.
