Incoming UK Prime Minister Theresa May has promised to build a “better Britain” and to make the United Kingdom’s European Union exit a “success”, despite herself voting to remain.

May became the leader of the Conservative party on Monday after Andrea Leadsom unexpectedly quit the two-way leadership contest, saying she did not have the support to build “a strong and stable government”.

May said she was “honoured and humbled” to succeed David Cameron – who has been the UK Prime Minister since 2010.

Cameron will tender his resignation with the Queen on Wednesday after quitting in the wake of the UK’s vote to leave the European Union.
