5 Things You Didn’t Know About Marion Cotillard
We look at five things you may not know about French actress Marion Cotillard.

At 42, Marion Cotillard is unstoppable. The French actress continues to make her mark on the international film industry, choosing thoughtful and intelligent roles that showcase her range of skills. We look at five things you may not know about this intriguing and talented star.

1. Her fashion philosophy is simple

Cotillard, who has represented Dior since 2008, described her fashion sense in just one sentence when we interviewed her in 2016. “I like the mix of feminine and masculine, and with a little touch of rock and roll,” she said. Despite her laidback view of her sense of style, Cotillard was named the #2 Best Dressed by Vogue magazine in 2010.

2. She is the third French woman to win the Best Actress Oscar

French-born American actress Claudette Colbert was the first, winning the Best Actress Academy Award in 1934 for It Happened One Night. Cotillard followed Simone Signoret, who won in 1960 for her role in Room at the Top, when she received the prestigious award in 2007 for her role in La Vie en Rose. Cotillard was mostly unknown by Hollywood at this time. She is the only other actress aside from Sophia Loren to win an Oscar for a film in a different language.

3. She’s environmentally minded

Cotillard is a spokeswoman for Greenpeace. She narrated the organisation’s animated video “The Amazon’s Silent Crisis”, which highlights illegal logging threatening the Brazilian Amazon.  Cotillard caged herself in Paris near the Louvre museum in 2013 holding a sign that read” “I am a climate defender,” and demanded the release of jailed Greenpeace activists in Russia.

4. She’s musically talented

Cotillard writes music, sings and plays a number of instruments including guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, and tambourine. In 2001 she co-wrote and performed the song “La Fille De Joie” for her film Les Jolies Choses, also known by its English title “Pretty Things”.

5. She owns two restaurants

The French are known for their love of food, and it would seem Cotillard is no exception. She owns two extremely successful restaurants in Paris; Jaja and Glou. The dining establishments are often the go-to for visiting celebrities.
